Hello Members and Friends,

This newsletter is a little overdue, but I’ve been trying to pin down details so I can bring you up to date with everything. It feels like it has been a busy month already and we are only halfway in. Today it actually feels like summer – it’s been pretty cool and we’ve received a really good amount of rain which makes us all pretty happy.

Mickey and I attended the Boundary Museum’s Honey Bee Festival on May 30th. It was nicely done – could have used some food trucks but it was their initial effort. We didn’t have a big day as far as sales go but we sure talked a lot about history and are hoping to get a family story out of it. We did have quite a few visitors from Christina Lake – maybe because their power was out from that big storm. Mickey felt lucky that she had lots of chest freezers because a lot of people were having barbecues – trying to use up that thawing meat!! Mickey’s power didn’t come on until 10:30 on Saturday night – it was out for two full days. Bet there was a few people looking to buy generators. Thanks to Denise and the Museum crew for inviting us.

Ken Fehr and I have been up to Jewel Lake twice. He’s mowed the grass twice now and I’ve done the trimming. Gladys would be pleased – her bachelor buttons are spreading and on Thursday this week they were just full of bees. A friend of Ken’s, Dave Paulette, came up with us last week and he trimmed back the pathway around the back of the cabin and then Ken and Dave replaced the rotted-out fence pole on the right-hand side fence. A job well done. We’ve had a suggestion from one of the Boundary Woodworkers that we think about opening the cabin for a few hours once a week through the summer. We’ll talk about it at our meeting next week. Any time we open the cabin we usually have someone dropping by. Nice to see that our friend and long-time member Kay McCaffrey was able to drop by and sign the visitor’s sheet.

I’ve been in contact with three fencers about the fencing repairs at Phoenix Cemetery. A week or so ago my nephew and I travelled up to the Upper Cemetery because a tree had come down on the right-hand side of the fence!! I’ve talked to Joe Barrett and asked him to include those repairs in his quote.

Travelled up to the cemetery one other time to place the markers for where we want the new picket cradles. Ken drove us around to Phoenix after mowing at Jewel Lake as I wanted his opinion about stabilizing the I.O.O.F. fence. Hopefully, we can figure that out soon.

I drove out to see Desiree at Jewel Creek Antiques and this week I visited Greenwood’s City Hall to see about information on Founders’ Day. Founder’s Day is being arranged by a new committee. Received our invitation yesterday but haven’t sent it in yet. We have to have event insurance, listing City of Greenwood as an additional insured. Jo Ann is checking on the price. Set your calendars for Saturday, July 18th for Founder’s Day – we’ll see you there!! Hoping Jakki and Tony will be able to help me with our booth.

On Sunday, July 12th we are joining the Brown Creek community at the Brown Creek Community Hall to enjoy a potluck supper and an “Antiques Roadshow” – home style. Desiree can’t attend but Diane from Luv this Stuff will be our resident expert. Bring along some antiques that you love and are willing to share with us. Diane will offer her opinion. We’re hoping to start the “show” at 3 p.m. or so. It would be good to arrive at 2:30ish to get your treasures set up. The antiques will be inside the community hall and supper outside in the pavilion. I know I’m thinking hard about what to take – you are not limited to just one item – show us your trove – don’t forget to bring a contribution for the potluck. James Price offered the use a refrigerator if we need one for our food. Further details to follow in July.

Lane Murray continues to work on our website. I think our domain name renews soon and then we should be set for a few months anyway. We can take donations on site by using Canada Helps. Lane keeps our calendar up to date so you can always check there for important dates for the BHS.

Still working on the new publication. Have a few stories coming in. Gosh, we miss Al Donnelly and Les Johnson!!

Our next regular meeting is on Wednesday, June 17th – Boundary Woodworkers’ building -1:00 pm. You are most welcome to attend.
