Hello Members and Friends,

 I just got off of the phone with our president, Mickey Keller-Nadon, and our executive.  We are going to postpone our Annual picnic that was scheduled for August 16th.  We feel that with all this smoke and the fire danger that it would not be wise to proceed.  If the skies clear and the fire danger is over in September, we can see if we can rearrange our get together.

We had an enjoyable time at the Brown Creek potluck and antiques show on Sunday, June 12th.  They were having some problems with their plumbing, so we got to rough it a bit.  Diane Shultz could not use her computer to access any information about the treasures we took up for her to view but we had a lovely time talking about them and their history.  Tons of great food – a very happy occasion for both the BHS and the Boundary Creek Community.  Lovely to see member Cecelia Bryan – she had a very interesting cane to show us and she travelled from Greenwood. Mickey thanked the Brown Creek Community for inviting us.

The following Saturday, July 18th, Jakki and Tony Fryer and I travelled out to Greenwood for Founders’ Day.  We were located at Len Lobsinger’s Dundee Triangle. It was not a great day for sales for us, but we had interesting conversations and Tony figured out how the Square worked for us!!  Thanks Tony. Thanks also to Len Lobsinger for hosting us. The smoke started rolling in at Greenwood and when I drove down into Grand Forks it was so much worse.

 I sent a note off to Joe Barrett about fencing at Phoenix Cemetery. He said he will get to it this year. I am simply grateful to have a contractor willing to do the two jobs. Jesse Holtorf did a really impressive job of trimming both cemeteries.  Thanks, Jesse! We could see his work when we met at Phoenix Cemetery to place the new picket cradles.

Boundary Woodworkers – John Walders, Henry King  and Dick Jones – met me at Phoenix on July 20th and made quick work of placing the new cradles. The pickets are stained this time, and we are hoping they will stand up a little better to the weather.  I asked Henry if he could help strengthen one of the oldest picket fences – it is in original shape except for a few screws, and I hope to leave it that way.  Huge thanks to the Boundary Woodworkers for completing this year’s work.  We could not maintain the cemetery so well without their help. This new picket cradle is placed just below where we had Hazel Mary Clayton’s memorial plaque. A couple of years after we had a family place the plaque this grave began to appear.  Little did we know we were so close to it.  Hazel’s marker was stolen and we placed another lower in the cemetery in her name.  Wonderful to have this grave marked.

Jakki purchased a good number of larch planks to turn into head markers for the graves that have wooden head markers – some of them near illegible.  The planks are drying and then will be carved by Al at the Artisan Market in Greenwood and hopefully placed this fall.  We will see how that goes.

Our next regular meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19th – 1:00 pm in the Boundary Woodworkers Guild meeting room.
