Hello Members and Friends,

October just went flying by. We are so fortunate to have this gorgeous fall weather continue on into November. My computer clock is an hour off – read the directions to fix it but I haven’t figured it out yet. I figure many of us are in the same position all over Canada.

Mickey Keller-Nadon received an email from Jakki and Tony Fryer that they needed to step down from their positions on the board. We were all sorry to hear that – they are great members. They are just too busy with house renovations. We are hoping they’ll be back after they finish restoring their heritage home – they bought Gladys Floyd’s old house and I’m sure they can’t wait to move in. Thanks to both of them for all they’ve done.

The preserved head markers, support metal, and extra larch is currently stored in the lobby between the Woodworkers and the Quilters up at the Woodworkers building. We will be looking for help to complete the project. Jo Ann mentioned yesterday that Jakki was successful in getting a $1000.00 grant from StellerVista Credit Union to help offset the cost of the head markers. This was a pleasant surprise and most welcome. Again, thanks to Jakki and Tony for all their work.

Drove up to Phoenix Cemetery the week before the AGM. Joe Barrett finished replacing the fence and the cemetery looked so good with the new fencing in place – safe and secure. The final bill for the repairs and replacement was $1500.00 – way less than we expected. Joe was able to fix the fence in the upper cemetery and repair some of the front fencing in the main cemetery. Feels so good to have that done – it has been on agenda for years! I’ve included a couple of pictures at the end of this newsletter. I found donations totalling $28.45 in the sign-in box. Nice!!

Fence repairs at Lower and Upper Phoenix Cemetery

Still trying to track down a quote for the liability insurance we need to purchase for the storage room at the Woodworker’s building and still trying to talk to Orlanda and see where we stand with Glady’s estate.

The turnout for our AGM was encouraging. New members from Midway and Grand Forks attended as well as our Phoenix Cemetery groomer, Jesse Holtorf. We had 20 persons in attendance. Deb Billwiller ably conducted the election. This is your executive for this 2027-28:

President – Cher Wyers

Vice-President – Mickey Keller-Nadon

Treasurer – JoAnn Sergeant

Secretary – Doreen Sorensen

Directors: Irene Perepolkin and Bob McTavish

Area Rep: Ken Fehr

I filed our Annual Society’s Report this week. If there are any other members who would like to become an area representative, you’d be most welcome. Area Representatives are appointed as Directors by the Executive at the meeting following the AGM.

Irene Perepolkin was presented with a Life Membership certificate. Mickey Keller-Nadon presented it and reminded Irene that we are still expecting her to continue working with us as a Director! Mickey praised Irene’s long involvement in the Historical Society. She has a wealth of knowledge. Irene is in good company – Cher Wyers, Deb and John Billwiller, and Gloria Lautard are Life Members as well.

Our first Christmas Craft Fair takes place this coming Saturday at Brown Creek Community Hall – 10 – 3 I believe. Mickey and Cher will look after the GFSS Craft Fair at on November 28th, and I’ll be out in Greenwood that day for their Christmas Fair. On December 5th I’ll be in Rock Creek. I wish we had a new Report. We are looking for help with the design of the next report – have spoken to Alpine Design and am doing a little more research. Good time to renew your membership if you need to.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday, November 18, 2026 at the Woodworker’s – 1:00 pm. Members are most welcome to attend. We don’t have a meeting in December – will resume regular meetings in January, 2027. Yikes, that will be our 76th Anniversary.

In History,

Doreen Sorensen

Secretary
