Hello Members and Friends,

It has been a busy and productive month for the Historical Society – we take July off but there are still commitments to honour, and the work continues without a thought to what month it is!!

We want to send our sincere “get-well” wishes to our President, Joan Heart. She has been in hospital in Trail and is now in the Boundary Hospital. A strong course of antibiotics is helping her – but of course she is champing at the bit to get back to her job at City Park. We all hope she is truly on the mend and wish her well.

We had a nice contingent of Historical Society members attend the Brown Creek Community Club’s potluck on June 14th. Good food, great company and a wonderful video of historical photos of the North Fork – especially the Brown Creek area. James and Christina Price were excellent hosts and Jeannie Galloway’s collection of photos and news articles was truly amazing. Frank Talarico said he wished it would never end!! Jeannie has offered us a memory stick, and I’ll see about getting it. Terry Clark sent all of us on a hunt for historical facts – principals never truly “retire”! All in all, it was very enjoyable and would love to do it again!! Thanks to Nathan Hooge and Mike for all their input, too. I apologize because I completely forgot to take my camera with me.

Ken Fehr and I went up to Jewel Lake this week and got the mowing done – the grass was pretty wet, but we did not have any trouble. Found one of our new fence rails down. I let Bob McTavish know and the Woodworkers will take care of it. The new stones in the entry way look great and so does the table. The forget-me-nots and the wild roses were blooming – looked so beautiful. We know why Gladys loved her cabin. Big thanks to Ken for the mowing and thanks always to the Boundary Woodworkers for all their help.

On Thursday, July 17th Les Johnson’s family will be having a Celebration of Life for Les at their home at 5395 – Hwy 41. That’s the road going down to the Carson/Danville border. Event will run from 4 pm to 8 pm. Hope some of you will be able to attend. You can let me know or get in touch with Lorraine or Christine. I know they have a drop box for photos and replies but I can’t find it right now. Lorraine’s email is lorrvb@hotmail.com. Hopefully, we can be of some help with Les’ celebration of his life.

We will be holding our Annual Picnic at Gladys’ cabin at Jewel Lake on August 10, 2025 – 11:00– 2 p.m. We will be asking friends of Les Johnson to attend and remember and reminisce with us. We will place a plaque in Les’ memory on the bench and he and Al will share it. We’ll have barbecued hot dogs and all the condiments and this year I’ll remember the chips. We always have a lovely selection of goodies, fruit, lemonade and coffee (of course). Please mark the date on your calendars and hopefully we’ll see you there. Bring a lawn chair – we have a few but they are old and not always to be trusted!! Had a note from Glady’s nephew Glenn Floyd – so nice to hear from him. He and his wife are hoping to make it.

Good news!! Not only is the Phoenix Cemetery book at Hall Printing in Trail for reprinting but Brian McAndrew from Vicom finished off Al’s second book – “Stories from Boundary Creek”. He was able to make the corrections, and I am hoping to pick both books up mid-July. He is also willing to work on Report #19. Now to find all the stories I sent on to Al!! There is light ahead for us!!

Lorraine and I stopped in at Jewel Creek Antiques this Saturday and had a lovely chat with De-siree King and admired her collection of antiques and collectibles and then we proceeded on to Greenwood and attended the grand opening of the Artisan’s Gallery in Greenwood. It is a spec-tacular store – thanks to Barry Noll for all the hard work and imagination he has put into this project. A nice addition to the town of Greenwood.

We will attend Founders’ Day on Saturday, July 19th – search us out and say hello.

Our next meeting will not be until August – will let you know the date in July’s newsletter.
