Hello Members and Friends,
Happy New Year to all of our Boundary Historical Society members. Hope the holiday season was a good one for all of you. Mine was filled with kids and grandkids and so much cooking and baking!! Now to get the tree down and put away those treasures for another year.
What a different winter we are having in Grand Forks. The lack of snow but not lack of rain is adding up to a coastal-type Christmas. Both the Kettle and the Granby are higher than is usual and not a sign of ice. I keep thinking I will hear of a buttercup being found. I have read in old Gazettes that that was not an unusual occurrence for January.
Our Christmas craft fair season was really a success. We sold two sets of Reports this year!! That is a record as far as I know of. Our hopes for using the Square did not work out but perhaps it will in the summer. At the Rock Creek Christmas Craft Fair, we are positioned just in front of an ATM so the availability of cash for purchases does not come up. Had lots of nice chats with people from the Rock Creek area – Art Harfman has promised a story or two.
Jo Ann broke her arm in November but is on her way to a full recovery – Joan is getting good care in working through her health problems and we stay in touch. We managed to have our Christmas supper get-together in December. We tried Golden Chopsticks this time and it was a hit with everyone. Jakki and Tony weren’t able to attend, Irene got her days mixed up and Mickey’s husband, Mike, was out snowplowing so we were missing a few key people, but the food was delicious and it was nice to get together.
We have asked the Boundary Woodworkers’ Guild to build us a few more picket fences for Phoenix. Will know more when we meet on January 21st at the Guild. Hoping Jakki will have an update on the wooden grave markers. We will be back to our regular meetings – 3rd Wednesday of every month at 1 p.m. Location is the Woodworker’s Guild on Donaldson. Members are always welcome to attend. I will be sending out renewal notices for memberships mid-month.
Mickey and I are hoping to make a start on Report #19 with a goal of having it out for sale by next Christmas. I have a lot of searching through files ahead of me, but I am going to give it my best shot.
Hoping that 2026 is good year for all of you.
