Hello Members and Friends,

Hard to believe we are halfway through our summer. It’s been a gorgeous summer so far – hope you are all enjoying the beautiful days and warm evenings. Already the days are getting shorter – hold on to these summer-day memories because calendar-wise we are getting closer to winter!!

Ken Fehr and I went up to Jewel Lake and got the mowing done. Quick job this time – we will do one more ‘tidy’ before our picnic on August 10th. The Woodworkers travelled up to Jewel Lake and put the downed fence rail back in place. They also placed the remaining rock that Mickey gave us by the sign-in box. Easier for short people (no comments, please) to sign in. I went up today and did a little tidying, swept and washed the floor and dusted and cleaned the counters off. I gave two “tours” while I was there. If you open the door, people will drop by!! Bet Gladys enjoyed that. Talked to the resort and got the okay to plug into the big cabin for our coffee and we are welcome to use the washrooms.

I stopped by the Phoenix Cemetery after I visited the cabin – took a few shots to show you how nice it looks. Jesse did a great job. We are ever so grateful for his help with the cemetery. He tidied all the graves, too.

Les Johnson’s Celebration of Life was just that – a celebration of him on what would have been his birthday. A really good turnout and a diverse one for sure. Just went to show how Les was loved in this town. I talked to Gregg Anderson and hopefully he’ll make it up to our picnic. Les and Al are sharing the memorial bench. A fitting place for two historians and two good friends.

I picked up our new copies of the Phoenix booklet and Al’s “Stories from Boundary Creek” the day before Les’ celebration. I know he’d be happy to know that we got it done. I just have to get two copies off to the national Archives in Quebec.

Bob McTavish and I attended Founders’ Day on July 19th. First time for the new set up. It was a lovely day – lots of people dropped by. We were in the upper parking lot across from McArthur Centre. We did lots of talking and sold quite a few Reports – took in over $300.00. I know the organizers are aware of a few problems but for us it was a great day, and we are always happy to be in Greenwood. I did miss a number of members who usually renew at this time. I’ll be sending out reminders.

We’ll be at the Greenwood Car Show on Saturday, August 16th if you want to drop by and renew your membership or pick up a copy of our Reports.

We will be holding our Annual Picnic at Gladys’ cabin at Jewel Lake on Sunday, August 10, 2025 – 11:00 – 2 p.m. There will be hot dogs and chips, coffee and lemonade and a nice selection of goodies and of course watermelon to refresh us. Hoping to have a good turnout. The address is 160 Jewel Avenue – same street as the Resort. Bring a chair – we have some extras, but they are old, and we aren’t too sure if they are safe!!

Our next meeting is on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 1 p.m. in the camping area at City Park. Park at the BMX parking lot.

I’ll be looking for help with our table at the Grand Forks and District Fall Fair on September 6th and 7th. If you can spare a few hours to help at our table, I’d be happy to hear from you.

See you on August 10th.
