Hello Members and Friends,
I have missed a monthly newsletter, but it is a quiet time in the Historical Society, so I have not missed on reporting much. I was remiss in not saying Happy New Year for sure and Groundhog Day and even Valentine’s. I am remembering to wish you a happy Family Day today.
A snowy morning for Grand Forks – I feel like February has been more like January used to be with those beautiful high blue skies and we do have snow on the ground. Cannot tell you how happy that makes me to have snow.
I had trouble with my keyboard, and it was impossible to type anything – cutting and pasting letters of the alphabet is not an easy way to get something on a page.
In January we voted to pause our Annual Anniversary Luncheon. Eating out is pretty expensive and so many insurance requirements have changed. We are thinking of doing something in late spring -not too close to our Annual Picnic. We have such good memories of baked potato luncheons but those are not possible anymore.
Our insurance did not go up this year – still it costs us over $200.00 for event insurance and without event insurance we cannot rent a facility.
I wrote to Chris Trudeau – the lawyer for Gladys’ estate – and he says he is as puzzled as us as to why it is taking so long to go through. Gladys would not be happy.
I am looking forward to Spring and some road trips to Phoenix and Jewel Lake and points beyond.
The BCHF Conference is being held in May this year in Williams Lake. A fair piece to go for us and an expense that is not paid for by the Society. We will see if anyone is interested in attending.
Well, that is about it. I continue to sell a few Reports, we have had a nice donation from Kay and Mickey, and I are taking a stab at Report #19. We will see how that goes.
If you would like to attend any of out meetings you are most welcome. We are so grateful that the Boundary Woodworkers’ Guild lends us their space. We have our next meeting this coming Wednesday, February 19th at the Woodworkers office – 1:00 p.m.
