November 4, 2024

Hello Members and Friends,

A touch of winter in the air today and  in the surrounding hills. Back to Pacific Standard Time – for some of us who love winter, it is just the beginning of a beautiful season. For those who do not enjoy winter, I hope spring comes early for you!!

We held our Annual General Meeting in the Seniors Centre at City Park this year. It was a beautiful day and that might have accounted for our attendance – 13 people. Actually, that is up one from last year!! Here is our Board for 2024-2025:

Past President:                                 Les Johnson

President:                                         Joan Heart

Vice-President:                                 Mickey Keller-Nadon

Treasurer:                                         Jo Ann Sergeant

Secretary:                                         Doreen Sorensen

Directors:                                          Irene Perepolkin and Bob McTavish

Although not all were present, the following members put their names forward following the meeting to be Area Reps – Ted Harrison, Ken Fehr, Jakki Fryer, and Frank Talarico. They will be voted in as Directors at our first regular meeting following the AGM – Wednesday, November 20, 2024.

Thanks to all who let their name stand and to those members who attended. We are looking forward to a fruitful and productive year. (Pictured; Jo Ann Sergeant and Mickey Keller-Nadon)

Cher Wyers has stepped down from the Vice-President’s chair. Joan recognized Cher’s years of service to the Boundary Historical Society with a certificate of Life Membership in our Society. We all wish Cher well and hope she will stay in touch.

Word from Chris Trudeau – the lawyer for Gladys’ estate – is that it is in the hands of the CRA and he will have us sign off (again) as soon as it is processed.

The Annual Societies Report was filed and processed. I have purchased kraft bags and stickers for craft sales. Attended our first craft fair of the season this past Saturday. Brown Creek Community Hall held their first ever Christmas Craft Fair and it was busy!!  I took in $210.00 in Report Sales. Next Craft Fair is at GFSS on Saturday, November 23rd. The following week is Greenwood’s and then Rock Creek on December 7th.

Les and I are working our way through Al’s second book – “Stories from the Boundary”. We are hoping that we can possibly have it ready for the last couple of craft fairs. And then it is on to Report #19. Putting the blank cards on hold for the time being – will work on them after we get the next report done.

Joan and I took a trip down to the Pia Mission cemetery last week and on Sunday we were up at our Jewel Lake cabin and then on to Phoenix cemetery. This is the first that Joan has seen the new sign-in box, the new fence and Al’s bench. First time too for her to see the fence repairs at the Upper Cemetery and the beautiful pickets and crosses the Woodworkers installed. She was happy to see the work that Jesse Holtorf has done in clearing the cemeteries of brush. Such a big task and done so well.

We have one more regular meeting this year – November 20, 2024 at 1 pm at the Woodworkers building. We do not meet in December so the first meeting of 2025 will be on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. I need to get out membership renewal notices in the next week or so.

Hoping this letter finds you well. I was saddened to hear that Judith Hamm has passed on. I had a wonderful time last year taking Judith and her sister, Marsha,  up to Gladys’ cabin to see the braided rug that their mother had made, and that Judith donated for the cabin.

Historically,

Doreen Sorensen
